Sault Ste. Marie is a town in Northern Ontario. It has been allocated 300 spots for the RCIP pathway to permanent residence in 2025.
Who is eligible for Sault Ste. Marie’s RCIP?
The RCIP is an employer-focused pathway to permanent residency, which means that foreign workers need a job offer from a designated employer to be eligible.
Employers can get designated if they fall within a priority sector and are approved by an economic development organization.
Sault Ste. Marie’s priority sectors are:
- Education, law and social, community and government services;
- Health;
- Manufacturing and utilities;
- Sales and service; and
- Trades and transport.
In addition, the job offer must be in an occupation that is under Sault Ste. Marie’s priority occupation list.
Foreign nationals need to meet other criteria regarding work experience, language proficiency, education qualifications, and settlement funds.
Foreign nationals who meet all the requirements, including having a job offer and a community recommendation, can apply directly to the federal government for Canadian permanent residence.
As of the time of writing, Timmins and Thunder Bay are some other communities participating in the RCIP that have revealed their list of designated employers for the RCIP.
