Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently conducted its first category-based selection draw for the Education category, issuing 1,000 invitations to apply (ITAs), with a cut-off Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 479.
Here are some fictional profiles that would have qualified to receive an ITA in the latest draw under Canada’s new Education category.
Example 1
Christina Navarro is a 26-year-old from the Philippines.
After completing her bachelor’s degree in education, she moved to Canada to pursue a two-year post-secondary college program, and received a diploma in Educational Support.
Following this, Christina received a post-graduation work permit and stayed to work in Canada, getting an entry level job and working for two years as an educational assistant at an elementary school.
Christina has a Canadian Language Benchmark level 9 in English in all abilities.
She does not have any foreign work experience, nor does she know any French.
Factors determining CRS Score | Qualifications | Points accrued |

Akram has a Bachelor’s degree in science, followed by a master’s degree in Education in Lahore. Following that, he taught in a school for three years as a secondary school teacher.
He speaks English well and has CLB Level 10 in English across all abilities. He has no knowledge of French.

Age | 29 | 110 |

It is worth noting that Education is a regulated profession in Canada, and Akram will have to get certified to teach in Canada. Certification is done on the provincial level so the requirements would depend on the province Akram decides to work in.
