The goal of this work permit is to allow easy movement of employees from a foreign company to a related Canadian company. This work permit was introduced to encourage the transfer of knowledge from high ranking/specialized knowledge type employees to employees in Canada.In most cases, the applicant’s spouse will also be allowed to accompany them on an open work permit.
Intra-Company Transfer Canada Work Permit Requirements
Full-time work experience with a foreign company for at least 1 year
This position was a senior/managerial or specialized knowledge position
Be offered a position in a Canadian affiliate
Ensure their occupation is consistent with the new definition of specialized knowledge
High level of proprietary knowledge: Requires applicants to show that they either possess unique knowledge of the company’s services and the company’s international markets – OR – show advanced knowledge about the processes and procedures of the company
Advanced level of expertise: Demonstrating advanced levels of expertise requires specialized knowledge gained in the past 5 years. This knowledge must significantly attribute to productivity and must be necessary and “unusual” within both company and industry.
Confirm that the salary they are being offered is consistent with the Canadian job market for their occupation
